Crime Reduction Strategies

The purpose of this course is to expose the learner to the practices and philosophies of some of the greatest crime fighters of the last century, including Jack Maple, Bill Bratton, Dr. George Kelling, and Chris Braiden. This critical analysis of police practices will hopefully make you think twice before accepting “that’s just the way we do it around here.”

Police and Gang Interdiction

The purpose of the course is to expose the student to various academic theories and points of view on the definition of gangs, as well as the current state of gangs in North America. While the focus of this course is on gangs, the student will also learn about modern criminological theories.

This course will compare and contrast the concept of restorative justice with the adversarial criminal justice system, and examine practices such as community justice conferences and panels, victim offender mediation, and peace making circles. The course will explore the current state of restorative justice in Canada.
